1. Wontons

Cantonese wontons are the most popular in the United States. They feature a shrimp or pork stuffing and are usually served in noodle soup. 

2. Jiao Zi

Jiao zi are filled with ground pork or beef and cabbage, bamboo, ginger, and green onions, folded in thin wrapping, and pleated at the edges. These dumplings are typically steamed, boiled, pan-fried (potstickers), or deep-fried (gau gee), and served with a side of soy sauce or vinegar.

Xiao long bao, also known as soup dumplings, are native to Nanxiang, a suburb of Shanghai. Xiao long bao feature minced pork and cooled meat stock wrapped in thin dough and shaped into balls. When steamed, the gelled stock melts, creating a burst of soupy deliciousness with each bite. 

4. Tang Yuan

Tang yuan are sweet dumplings made from rice flour dough and filled with fruit, red bean paste, chocolate, or chopped peanuts. Formed into balls and boiled in hot water, these dumplings are popular at Chinese New Year celebrations and symbolize good luck.
