1. Replace the Filter

2. Keep the Outdoor AC or             Heat Pump Clean

Central air conditioners and heat pumps use a fluid called refrigerant to move indoor heat outside to the exterior air conditioning unit. The liquid runs through a condenser coil, and a fan blows air to cool it down. The air takes heat away from the coil, and it is subsequently vented outdoors. If debris like leaves, dirt, or pollen clog the vents, the AC unit cannot dissipate the heat and won't cool your house effectively. Clean the vents each spring and make sure nothing is blocking the airflow.  Regular performance of this type of HVAC maintenance also prevents damage caused by overheating equipment.

3. Install a Programmable Thermostat

A digital thermostat lets you program household temperatures to reduce your heating and cooling costs. You can set it so that your home stays more comfortable during the hours when there and program it for a different temperature setting when asleep or away from home. It saves money on utility bills and reduces wear and tear on the system.
