Mystic, CT, is a beautiful coastal village within Groton and Stonington. Though it’s only four square miles, there’s plenty to see and do year-round in this charming New England destination. Visitors can take in the historical landmarks and sights by charter bus, grab a slice of movie-famous pizza from Mystic Pizza, and so much more. Here are a few of the village’s top attractions.

What to Do in Mystic, CT

1. Historic Downtown

For a little taste of everything Mystic has to offer, take a stroll through historic downtown Mystic. With over 80 independently-owned shops, restaurants, boutiques, and cafes, you can experience the village as the locals do. Pick up a souvenir nautical knot bracelet from Mystic Knotwork or enjoy a sweet treat from Candy Shop.

2. Mystic Seaport Museum

The Mystic Seaport Museum is a perfect attraction for history buffs. A recreation of a 19th-century coastal village, a shipyard and over 500 historic ships and watercraft are spread across 19 acres of Mystic River. Visitors can climb aboard the Charles W. Morgan, the last wooden whaling ship in the world.

3. Mystic Aquarium

Plus, the aquarium is a research and rescue facility that offers unique, up-close encounter programs with some of its animals, like the beluga whale.

4. Grab a Local Bite or Drink

Mystic Pizza, the movie that launched Julia Roberts’ career, wasn’t actually filmed at the real Mystic Pizza, but the eatery still serves up a mean “slice of heaven.” In addition to delicious pizzas, this restaurant offers visitors a chance to browse through movie memorabilia.

If you’re taking a charter bus tour to Mystic in the fall, you’re in luck: B.F. Clyde’s Cider Mill is the best place to enjoy sweet apple cider and apple cider donuts. This attraction is the only steam-powered cider mill in the country that makes sweet apple cider and potent hard cider.
