Seasonal maintenance is essential for producing a comfortable indoor atmosphere. Neglecting to take precautions could allow internal issues to develop and cause a need for air conditioning repairs. Ensure that everything is fully operational by considering the following steps and providing the proper level of care.

4 Tips for Prepping Your Air Conditioner for Summer

1. Clear the Air Vents

Maintain approximately 18 inches of clearance around each of the vents. Not doing so could restrict airflow and cause the system to overwork itself, resulting in a need for air conditioning repairs. Perform a walk-through of the entire home to see if any adjustments have to be made.

2. Swap Out the Filters

Change them out at the start of the season and continue to check their appearance at least once a month to preserve the indoor air quality.

3. Vacuum the Ductwork

Dust that doesn’t quite make it to the filter will settle along the inside of the ducts. Over time, these particles could come loose and reduce the breathability of the home. Take off the covers of the vents and carefully vacuum out the materials. Clear away any residual debris by using a microfiber cloth to wipe down the interiors.

4. Flush the Condensation Lines

Water tends to collect along the base of the unit during the heat transfer. Drain lines that aren’t functioning properly will allow the accumulation to overflow and cause water damage in the home.

Turn off the power before checking for debris around the opening of the drain, which can be found within the air handler. Pour in a small amount of water to determine if you need conditioning repairs.
