Crows feet are wrinkles around the outside corners of the eyes. Even if you practice a healthy skin care routine, these deep lines may still occur. Here are four tips to prevent these markings and make your face appear more smooth and youthful.

How to Avoid Crow’s Feet

1. Mitigate Sun Damage

The sun emits powerful ultraviolet rays, even when it’s cloudy. UVA rays can damage cell DNA, as well as age skin by encouraging wrinkles. Apply a moisturizer with an SPF of 30 every day, and wear an SPF of 50 or higher on days you’re outdoors. Protect your eyes and the skin around them by donning sunglasses with UV protection to mitigate the risk of premature aging.

2. Stay Moisturized

skin careSince dried skin shrinks, plump the cells around the eyes with a hydrating moisturizer. This will make crow’s feet and other fine lines less noticeable. For the best results, look for skin care products that feature retinoids to address sun damage, as well as vitamin C, which reduces the likelihood of skin deterioration.

3. Alleviate Stress

Telomeres are located at the end of chromosomes and prevent DNA breakdown. Over time, repeated exposure to stress may shorten your telomeres. This change makes your body less prolific at creating new cells, potentially promoting signs of aging, like crow’s feet and wrinkles.

Exercise, meditate, and go to therapy to alleviate your stress and lower anxiety levels. Set boundaries by declining extra work tasks and social engagements. As a result, you’ll feel more in control of your life, which will lessen your stress and lower your risk of crow’s feet.
