Banners can be great marketing tools for both indoor and outdoor use, as you can use them to promote sales, attract attention at events, or add visual interest to a display. However, since they're typically larger than other marketing materials, banners require some planning to be successful. Before sending you design for banner printing, review the following.

Do:

Use high-quality imagery.

Your banner will be more attention-grabbing if you use graphics or photos. Vector images are the best option for large format banners, as they can be scaled to any size. Trying to scale other file formats will reduce the quality of the image and appear blurry and pixelated. For large-scale banner printing, high-resolution photos of 300 DPI are recommended.

Factor in page bleed.

banner printingThe page bleed determines how large the margin around your banner is. The edge of your design shouldn't contain text, as it might get cut off. Allow some space for trimming the edges, but also try your best to avoid large amounts of white space around the perimeter.

Don’t:

Forget to consider its location.

Before determining your banner’s design, consider where and how the final product will hang. For example, outside banners may need to be made of a material that works better in the rain, and you may need to include cut-out slits if it needs to move in the wind. Also, make sure you have grommets put in during banner printing if that's how you plan to hang it. Finally, think about the banner’s backdrop and if your design will stand out or blend in.

Use too much text.

Make sure you don’t clutter your banner with too many words or make your text too small, as that'll make it harder to read. Include only pertinent information on your banner and, if possible, direct readers to more information elsewhere. If you need to include a lot of logos or wordy recognition, such as event sponsors or contributors, scale your banner so the text doesn’t distract from your key messaging.
