Many people are fans of vinyl flooring. Not only does it have a sleek appearance, but it’s versatile enough for almost any room and durable enough to last for years. Whether it’s in your business or bedroom, it’s important to understand how to care for this material.

How to Take Care of Your Vinyl Floors

1. Use Doormats & Rugs

One way to make maintaining your floor easier is to stop dirt from getting tracked in. Place doormats inside and outside of all entrances. Always wipe your feet on these mats to get rid of loose dirt on the bottom of your shoes. For areas with heavy traffic like hallways and living rooms, consider putting down area rugs for extra protection.

2. Use Warm Water

Conventional wisdom says hot water is better for loosening grime on the floor. However, it can also cause vinyl to warp and eventually break. Keep any water you use for mopping or cleaning at a warm temperature. If it’s too hot for your hands, it’s too hot for your floor.

3. Sweep Early & Often

4. Avoid Abrasive Cleaners

Pick a cleaning solution built for vinyl material. Don’t use a solution that contains bleach or other harsh chemicals that can damage the floor. Also, use it conservatively. Always dab and never pour; you can add more solution if you need it, but you can’t take it away.

5. Rinse Thoroughly

You don’t want to use too much cleaning solution because it can leave soap residue behind. Ironically, this is a magnet for dust and grime. Rinse thoroughly after scrubbing your floor, and don’t forget to dry it so no moisture is left behind.
