As a business owner, one of your many responsibilities is maintaining your HVAC system, including keeping up with proper air filtration. Commercial air filters are crucial because they remove dust, allergens, and other airborne particles that can be harmful.

What Are the Different Kinds of Commercial Air Filters?

1. Fiberglass

This type of commercial air filter is one of the lowest on the MERV scale, but it is one of the most affordable. It is flat, made of fiberglass mesh, and is better at protecting the system than the air from particles.

2. Pleated

Pleated air filters are made of folded fabric to catch particles to protect both the breathable air and the HVAC system. They are still very affordable options, but since they are hard workers, pleated commercial air filters tend to cause your system to run a bit less efficiently. They typically have a MERV rating that ranges from five to 13.

3. Electrostatic

Electrostatic filters are not compatible for all systems, but when they are, they do a wonderful job of collecting and trapping particles from the air. Using an electric charge, the filters act as a magnet to attract the particles. These filters are typically given up to a 15 for their MEV rating.

4. HEPA

Though more expensive and less efficient to your system than fiberglass or pleated commercial air filters, HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filters remove most contaminants from the air. With a high MERV rating from 17 to 20, they are made of a fine mesh that uses air pressure to capture dust and other air pollutants.
