Polished concrete floors can add durability and beauty to your commercial space. While they are easy to maintain, they do require specific cleaning techniques. If you want to prevent your polished concrete floors from discoloration or losing their shine, try these three cleaning tips.

How to Clean Your Polished Concrete Floor

1. Use a Dust Mop Daily

Polished ConcreteDirt is abrasive to concrete floors. It can scratch up the surface and, over time, wear away at the top layer. To prevent this from happening, use a microfiber dust mop daily. A microfiber mop will attract and trap dirt within the mop pad.

2. Wet Mop Once Weekly

To thoroughly remove bacteria and dirt and to maintain your floor’s shine, you’ll need to wet mop once per week. It’s essential to choose a pH-neutral cleaner for mopping. This type of cleaner gently lifts dirt without causing damage to the concrete. Avoid harsh cleaners such as bleach, ammonia, or vinegar which can eat away at the concrete’s pores.

If you’re mopping a large commercial space, use an automatic floor scrubber that comes with non-abrasive pads. If the floor you’re mopping is small, you can use a regular mop and water bucket if you continually change out the dirty water.

3. Promptly Clean Up Spills

Once concrete stains, it’s difficult to remove the discoloration. This makes promptly cleaning up spills important.

If you find a spill, quickly clean it up with water and a pH-neutral cleaner. If spot treating with the cleaner, be sure to mop or wet vacuum the area before it has a chance to dry on the floor.
