It’s not uncommon to see a variety of cords plugged into outlets in every room in a home. Aside from being an eyesore, having a tangle of cords lying around can present a safety hazard. That’s why electricians recommend keeping your wires as neat and organized as possible. Here are a few cable management solutions to help.

How to Organize Your Electronic Cables

1. Bundle Cords Together

Leaving loose cords dangling from the entertainment center or your desk area looks cluttered. Tidy up the space by bundling cords together. If you’re bunching just a few at one time, use rubber twist ties or zip ties. For larger bundles, adjustable Velcro® wraps and cable sleeves work well.

2. Label Cables

Labels for all your cables will help you and your electrician identify which cords power what devices, so you don’t have to guess when it comes time to unplug something. Without proper labels, it can take up too much time trying to sort out your connections.

3. Hold Cords in Place

electricianWhen cords crisscross across the floor, they increase the risk of tripping and can become frayed or broken due to foot traffic. Anchoring cables to the wall, baseboards, or door and window frames with coaxial cable nail-ins will eliminate these problems and help maintain order. You can also attach adhesive organizer clips behind furniture to keep cords hidden.

4. Put Away Cables You Aren’t Using

During your organization efforts, you may come across cables that you don’t use every day. Store them to decrease clutter.

Once they’ve been labeled, you can stick each one inside of a toilet paper or paper towel roll, then place them in a bag or box. Another option is to keep them in an ornament box, which has separate compartments to help avoid tangling.
