Exercise is vital to your physical and mental health, but it can be difficult to motivate yourself if you’re not having fun. You need to find a way to make exercise or fitness classes enjoyable and exciting so that you can reach your goals. Below, learn how to reframe your mindset about exercising.

How to Actually Enjoy Exercising

1. Find a Workout Buddy

Find a friend who wants to improve their fitness journey, too. Pick someone you don’t see as often as you’d like to. The two of you can bond over the new workouts, and spend time together after class getting coffee and catching up. You can hold each other accountable, motivate one another, and have someone to share your fitness class with.

2. Set Goals

Setting goals is a great way to prevent yourself from feeling like you’re stagnating. These can be little goals, like wanting to be able to walk up three flights of stairs without getting winded or doing five more pushups than you did a month ago. You can also set larger goals to look forward to, like getting your next belt in a karate class or running a 5K.

3. Take a Fitness Class

There are lots of different options, including Tai Chi, Pilates, karate, CrossFit®, taekwondo, Zumba®, or kickboxing. If joining seems intimidating, sit in on a class to observe or bring your fitness buddy with you.

4. Reward Yourself

Give yourself a reward for a job well done. Consider taking some time to yourself after your workout to take a hot bath or watch your favorite T.V. show. You could also set a goal for the number of times you’d like to work out in a week or promise yourself you’ll attend all of your fitness classes that month. If you exceed that goal, take yourself out for a nice meal or have a spa day.
