As one of the busiest and most famous cities in New Jersey, Atlantic City boasts a long, rich history and an endless number of exciting activities. As you prepare for your charter bus trip, learn more about the city so you can fully enjoy the sights you’ll see.

What to Know About Atlantic City Before Going

1. The Home of Gambling

The first casino outside of Nevada opened in Atlantic City in 1978. Since then, the gambling industry has grown rapidly throughout the area. All of the city’s casinos are open 24 hours. Nowadays, many resorts even allow guests to watch games and place bets from their hotel rooms.

2. Multiple Historical Attractions

You’ll find evidence of the city’s rich history wherever the charter bus takes you. For instance, the first boardwalk in the country was built there in 1870. You may also love the Boardwalk Hall organ, which is nearly a century old and features more than 33,000 pipes, making it the biggest and loudest musical instrument in the world.

The city is also home to Lucy the Elephant, a six-story structure that predates the Eiffel Tower and Statue of Liberty. She has a spiral staircase that you can climb for an amazing view of the city. Absecon Lighthouse, built in 1857, is the tallest lighthouse in the state and the third tallest in the U.S.

3. Paradise for Candy Lovers

4. Inspiration for Well-Known Activities

The famous Miss America Pageant had its humble beginnings in Atlantic City in 1921. The same can be said of the board game Monopoly, which uses names that currently or used to exist in the city. Also, if you’ve ever heard of horse diving, you might be interested to know that it began at the Steel Pier
