Blinds are stylish and practical window treatments that give you privacy while allowing you to easily control how much sunlight enters your home. When problems arise with your blinds, you might think you have to buy new ones. However, sometimes simple repairs can fix the issue. Discover the solutions to some common problems below.

A Guide to Issues With Blinds

1. Blinds Won't Lower

The lift cords are what allow you to raise your blinds. If the blinds won't lower, the cords might be stuck. To fix it, hold the lift cords level with the headrail at the top of the blinds and pull gently. If this doesn't work, locate the cord lock mechanism. When you look at the headrail, the lift cords run through it, and you should see a small pin with a screw. Use a flat screwdriver to loosen the screw and push the pin in. This should loosen any tangles that might be preventing the cord from lifting.

2. Slats Won't Tilt

blinds Cincinnati, OHTurning the tilt rod allows you to adjust the angle of the slats. If nothing happens when you turn the tilt rod, it's likely become disconnected from the tilt mechanism at the headrail. To locate the tilt mechanism, look at the headrail. You should see a metal rod running along the length of the headrail, leading directly to the tilt mechanism at the top of the tilt rod. Push the end of the tilt rod into the tilt mechanism to reattach it.

3. The Blinds Are the Wrong Size

You can adjust the length of slatted blinds yourself. First, take off the bottom rail by removing the plugs on either side. Untie the knots of the string ladders—the cords holding the slats in place—and the lift cord. Then, slip off the bottom rail and the additional slats you need to remove to fit the window. After this, put the bottom rail back in place. Trim the string ladders and the lift cords as needed, leaving enough at the ends so you can retie the knot.
