Every adult would love to keep a spotless house, but sometimes you just don’t have time to do more than wipe down the counters and mop the floors. Even if you are careful with your home cleaning, dirt and grime can continue to accumulate in out-of-the-way nooks and crannies, where mold and mildew can start to develop. If you’re getting ready for spring cleaning, concentrate on these often-overlooked places.

Where to Deep-Clean This Spring

1. The Dishwasher

Your dishwasher cuts through grease and tough stains, but all that food debris has to go somewhere. Fortunately, cleaning a dishwasher is fairly easy. Just rinse the filter and run a cycle with the hottest water possible after sprinkling a cup of baking soda over the appliance’s interior.

2. Coffee Makers

Residue and hard water deposits can contaminate your coffee and leave your morning pick-me-up with a strange taste. The best approach is to run a 50/50 mixture of vinegar and water through the machine, stop it halfway through, and then start it up again about an hour later. Finally, keep cycling fresh water through the coffee maker until the vinegar odor is gone.

3. Lampshades

4. Decorative Pillows

You might clean the pillows your family sleeps with on a regular basis, but what about the ones on your couch? Running your vacuum’s upholstery attachment will remove most dust, dead skin, and other debris, but remember to wash the pillowcases on a regular basis.

5. Toothbrush Holders

Most toothbrush holders collect moisture, which makes them the ideal place for mold and bacteria to grow. As part of your home cleaning regimen, run your toothbrush holder through the dishwasher or soak it in a solution of vinegar and water.
