Having a leak in your bathtub is more than just a nuisance. In severe cases, it can waste hundreds of gallons of water or pose serious water damage to your home. Understanding what kind of bathtub repair you need will ensure you get assistance quickly and effectively. For the fastest, most accurate results, consult the guide below.

3 Types of Leaks That Require Bathtub Repairs

1. Leaky Faucet

If the bathtub showerhead or faucet drips consistently, even after you’ve ensured the water is turned off, the interior rubber seals have likely worn out. In this case, you have two options. You can have the bathtub repair technician replace the faucet entirely, or you can ask them to remove the unit and put in new the rubber washers.

If you opt for the latter, the technician will start by turning off your water supply. Then, they’ll remove the screw holding the faucet in place and dismantle the unit. Once they’ve replaced the faulty washers, they’ll reinstall the faucet and then turn your water back on.

2. Cracked Grout

In this case, all you need to do is have a technician replace the caulk. This process will usually take an hour or two, depending on the size of the area that needs attention. After 24 hours, the caulk will cure entirely and you can resume using your tub.

3. Loose Overflow Tube

In some cases, your bathtub’s leak may be caused by problems with the joint between the bathtub and the overflow tube. If this tube gets loose, water may seep through, causing low water pressure and dozens of gallons of water to waste away. Luckily, this issue is easy for technicians to diagnose. They’ll tighten overflow cover to rectify the issue.
