When you are planning a water well drilling project, you certainly need a reliable well pump. However, this is not the only important component. People often neglect other essential accessories that enable the well to function optimally. Below are some of the most important additional well and pump attachments.

3 Important Well Drilling Accessories

1. Well Caps

The well casing is a rugged tube that runs through the borehole from the ground's surface to the water source. It prevents earth and gravel along the borehole from entering the well and is often cemented into place. The well cap covers the top of the well casing to prevent animals, insects, and other surface pollutants from contaminating the well water. Most well caps include a screen that permits clean air to enter the well casing to prevent vacuum issues as water leaves the well.

2. Centralizers

Well drillingCentralizer guides are bent arcs of metal welded to the well casing or well screen to center it within the borehole. Three or four guides are mounted equidistantly around the outside circumference of the well casing and press against the inside walls of the borehole to secure the casing and prevent it from wobbling.

3. Mud Pumps

A mud pump is used during the well drilling process. It is used to remove loose dirt from the hole as it is being drilled. Workers flood the hole with fluid, which turns the cut dirt to mud. This is brought to the surface with the reciprocating mud pump and then discarded. In addition to water well drilling, mud pumps are also used for oil and gas drilling projects.
