If you have commercial refrigeration such as a walk-in cooler, beverage cooler, or reach-in units for food and drinks, you may notice that your equipment is too warm and not keeping items as cold as they should be. There are a few different causes for the problem, ranging from mechanical troubles to bad habits.

What Causes Commercial Refrigeration to Be Too Warm?

1. Malfunctioning Parts

When certain components aren’t working properly, they can affect the temperature of your commercial refrigeration unit. Check that the airflow from the compressor is not being obstructed, especially if it is top mounted. Next, check that the door is sealing well. A broken gasket or damaged hinges may be causing the door to not close all the way, which lowers the internal temperature.

2. Dirty Coils

Over time, condenser coils will get dirty and grimy, and this buildup will interfere with the unit’s cooling process. Your owners manual offers instructions on how to clean coils, so your refrigerator doesn’t have temperature fluctuations.

3. Problematic Thermostat

Rearrange your fridge and see if it makes a difference. If the unit still feels too warm, the gauge may be broken and you will need a commercial refrigeration contractor in to replace it.

4. Open Doors

Ensure the staff is not opening the door too frequently or leaving it open for too long. This habit can rapidly send in warm air that will affect your unit’s ideal temperatures. Instruct your personnel on only open the refrigerator when necessary and don’t prop it open for extended periods of time.
