1. Clean Rooms Thoroughly Before & After Clients 

Treatments rooms need to be sanitized between every appointment. Spray and wipe down all surfaces with disinfectant, including tables, chairs, countertops, sinks, doorknobs, and equipment.

Remove soiled linens from the room, place them in a covered container, and use fresh sheets and towels for each client. Do laundry daily to avoid mold growth.

Rooms should also be well ventilated to help prevent airborne infections.

2. Decontaminate Tools Properly 

Tools designed for multiple uses need to be cleaned after each client to avoid spreading bacteria. First, scrub off debris and residue with soap and water, then immerse instruments in an EPA-approved disinfectant for about 10 minutes. Let them air dry on a clean towel.

Anything that comes into contact with blood or bodily fluids should also be sterilized before being stored in a sealed container until needed again.

Get rid of single-use or disposable tools once they’ve been used, as they cannot be disinfected.

3. Maintain Personal Hygiene

Aestheticians must be vigilant about their own personal hygiene standards as well. Wash your hands immediately after working on a client, and always wear gloves when you can see a cut or open wound. Keep your nails short to avoid collecting germs underneath them, and refrain from wearing jewelry, as it can transfer bacteria. You may also consider wearing a face mask during treatment.
