Polished concrete flooring gives your business a sleek and modern feel. They inspire employees and impress customers. While they usually only requires annual maintenance, the floor will lose its shine if not properly cleaned. From using the right kind of pad to cleaning spills immediately, you can ensure they remain luxurious for years to come.

How to Keep Your Polished Concrete Floors Clean

1. Dust Mop Daily

Whether you're an office, restaurant, or a retail establishment, your floors will see plenty of foot traffic throughout the day. The dirt will seep into the pores of the floor and dull the luster. Dust mopping will remove coarse dirt particles that are abrasive to the surface of the floor.

2. Mop Weekly

Polished ConcreteBleach, ammonia, and pine-based cleaners are acidic and will wear down the pores of the flooring. Instead, use a floor cleaner that's pH neutral to mop the floors every week.

Mop the floor with an automatic floor scrubber that has nonabrasive pads.

The scrubbers have a clean water tank that's used for washing and a recovery tank to remove dirty water. This ensures that only clean water is used on your flooring and that it retains its beauty.

3. Use a Diamond Impregnated Pad

This may sound like a luxury item, but these pads are an affordable way to keep your polished concrete clean and shiny. They remove dirt and undo the damage scratches made to your floors. The pads can be used as needed, whether that's every month or every day.

If you don't have a diamond impregnated pad, use a soft pad that is still effective for everyday cleaning. Using more abrasive pads will remove the dirt, but they'll also damage your floors.

4. Clean Spills Immediately

Polished concrete is porous and will absorb spills. If they aren't cleaned as soon as the spill occurs, the stain could permanently discolor your floor, creating an odd splotch. Sodas and milk are especially acidic and should be carried carefully through your establishment. Remove stains like you were mopping the floor—with clean water and a neutral cleaner. If that doesn't work on the blot, use a deep stain remover.

5. Shine Annually

When the floor is dry, use a high-speed burnisher on the floor to restore its shine. Then, go about your normal cleaning process. Use a drop mop to remove dirt and a wet mop for excess debris and bacteria.
