As the owner of a restaurant, it’s important to store your meat properly in your commercial freezer. It prevents the spread of bacteria and helps you serve quality dishes to your customers. As a rule of thumb, always place your meats below other items to keep meat juices from contaminating them. Here are more tips for storing various meats in your freezer.

4 Tips for Safely Storing Meat

1. Beef and Lamb

Beef and lamb can typically be stored in the commercial freezer for four to six months and in the refrigerator for two to three days. Ground meat, premade patties, and stew meat generally have a shorter lifespan in the freezer and refrigerator than steaks, roasts, and chops.

2. Poultry

3. Deli Meats

Hot dogs and lunch meats can last in the refrigerator for up to two weeks if they’re unopened. They should be consumed within a week of opening.  However, they last just two months in a freezer.

4. Seafood

Most seafood products, including shrimp, scallops, mussels, and fish, can only be stored in the refrigerator for two days. They can typically be kept in the freezer anywhere from three to six months. However, lobster, crab, and fatty fish shouldn’t be kept in a freezer at all.
