Many prom committees serve food from a local catering company at the event. There are some considerations you need to mull over before placing the order. Use this guide to ensure catering success and satisfied prom-goers.

Planning A Prom? Keep These 4 Catering Considerations In Mind

1. Envision the Setup

Visit the space where the food will be served to determine the best layout. Keep spaces for tables and chairs as well as the dance floor in mind so the room doesn’t feel claustrophobic.

If you’re doing a buffet, it’s easy to line the hot and cold dishes along one wall. If it’s a sit-down meal, you may want the food served from a separate room, such as through a kitchen window leading to the main hall.

2. Know Your Audience

cateringSince you’re dealing with teenagers, serve comfort foods they’ll want to eat after dancing all night. Potato or macaroni salad, fried noodles, sushi, vegetable trays, and finger sandwiches with tuna or egg salad are among the relatively simple yet tasty foods prom-goers will savor.

3. Get a Headcount

Ask how many guests will attend the prom to avoid wasted food. While you can’t account for circumstances such as acute illnesses, a headcount helps you keep your order in a reasonable range. If you still end up with a lot of extra food, consider donating it to a local homeless shelter.

4. Don’t Forget About the Vegans & Vegetarians

Include options for every palette, like vegan and vegetarian fare. Providing meat-only dishes leaves out teens who don’t eat animal products. Also, learn whether anyone else on the guest list has dietary restrictions, such as peanut allergies or gluten intolerances, so everyone has food to enjoy.
