Your smile is one of the first features people notice about you, so when a big event like your wedding is coming up, you want it to look its best. Cosmetic dentistry offers numerous treatments to correct and restore smiles with flaws, helping you get ready for the big day. Below are some of the most useful cosmetic treatments you may need before the big day.

4 Dental Treatments to Improve Your Smile on Your Wedding

1. Veneers

A veneer is a thin sheet of porcelain that's cemented to the front of a tooth. It covers minor issues like deep staining, chips, small gaps, and cracks. A small amount of enamel is removed from the tooth to make room for the veneer. The process can take up to two visits to complete, so schedule a consultation about two months before the wedding so you have time to get them made, placed, and be adjusted to the way they feel.

2. Crowns

Crowns cover the entirety of a tooth above the gumline, fitting over it like a sheath. They restore a full, natural appearance to a tooth that's been badly damaged, such as a severe break, crack, or cavity. They protect it from further damage and are often used after root canals or large fillings to make the tooth stronger. The process of shaping your tooth, fitting a temporary crown while a custom permanent one is made, and then having the permanent one placed can take up to a month, so check around your area at least six to eight weeks before the wedding.

3. Teeth Whitening

cosmetic dentistryIn-office whitening uses carbamide or hydrogen peroxide solution that is applied to the teeth to gently break up and lift stains. It’s sometimes activated with UV light.

How many sessions you need will vary depending on the current shade and desired shade of your teeth, with most patients being treated in up to three sessions. Some stains, such as those of a purple or gray color, won't be affected by teeth whitening and may need to be covered by a veneer, so have a dentist consultation at least six weeks before the wedding.

4. Implants

Dental implants replace missing teeth. They use a titanium post that's bonded in place with a crown mounted on top of it. The process usually happens over several appointments—one for consultation, one to place the post, and one to mount the crown. It could be up to four to six months before your implant has healed, so you should plan well in advance if you need to have them done.
