With an RV, you can travel long distances comfortably. If you put yours in vehicle storage during the colder months, now is the time to take it out and enjoy springtime adventures. If your vehicle is in outdoor storage, follow these tips to prepare it to hit the road again.

4 Steps to Removing an RV From Vehicle Storage

1. Inspect the Battery & Generator

Whether you left it inside the RV or brought it home, inspect the battery after a prolonged period of disuse. Look for rust and corrosion, which leave reddish residue on the terminals. If your RV has a generator to power appliances, inspect its filter and replace it if there are signs of animal nesting.

2. Prepare the Tires

The cold air tends to deflate tires, so use a pressure gauge to measure the air in the tires. While doing this, look for damage, such as punctures, cracks, or uneven tread. Damaged tires may need repairs or replacement. If necessary, inflate low-pressure tires to the suggested pound per square inch (PSI) printed on the sidewall.

3. Top up the Liquids

You should also inspect any appliances that use propane, such as water heaters or stoves. If any fuel hoses are cracked, replace them before opening the valves to power the appliances. Fill up the propane tank if levels are low.

4. Clean the Water System

Dewinterize the water system by removing the antifreeze with a system flush. Mix ¼ cup of bleach for every 15 gallons of water in the equipment, then pump the mixture through all the fixtures and faucets. Let the water sit overnight to sterilize everything before flushing it a few times with water to remove all traces of chemicals.
