Hiring an excavation company is necessary for residential and commercial projects. With their expertise, safety regulations, and efficiency with proper equipment, you’ll cut construction time in half. During your project, one or more of the following heavy construction tools will be used on-site to extract and move debris or dirt.

Common Excavation Equipment

1. Skid Steer

A skid steer is a small, engine-powered machine with a rigid frame and is used in place of large excavators to dig holes, particularly underneath structures. They have four-wheels, each able to operate independently from the others. Skid steers are tracked vehicles, which makes driving them difficult; thankfully, this is compensated by the friction generated by both solid and plowed ground. Optional attachments for this equipment include snowblowers, a trencher attachment, and grapple buckets.

2. Mini Excavatorexcavation

Mini excavators are equipment that carry small amounts of dirt and stone. This tool is fitted with wheels or tracks, and includes a backfill blade that’s used to fill holes. Excavating arms (i.e., swing booms) are attached to dig around walls and foundations, which makes the mini excavator useful for small scale projects.

3. Loader

Loaders (i.e., front scoops, and shovel loaders) are used to relocate and load large materials. This construction tool moves large amounts of gravel, logs, sand, woodchips, and other materials and debris with ease. Crews use loaders to relocate obstructing piles, or transfer them to dump trucks. Another attachment for loaders includes swing booms, which scoop up loose materials without pushing them along the ground; consequently, this prevents damage to the site and the creation of obstructions.
