With so many types of sidings and so many different companies who make the siding, it can make you want to give up on even trying. Well, we wanted to offer a quick reference guideline to help make things easier. See below:

Vinyl Siding – multiple companies make different types but since its vinyl they are all remotely the same. What you do want to look for it the thickness, the thicker the better. Advantage –  is the cost of the siding, it’s cheaper (but for a reason). Disadvantage – Durability, don’t let those contractors fool you this product may never rot away but rocks, lawn mowers, the sun and many more elements can date vinyl siding very fast!

Wood Siding – there are multiple types of wood siding but to make it easy you have fiber board, LP Smartside strand product and cedar siding. This product for siding is by far better than vinyl, steel and aluminum siding. Wood comes from our earth and with that said it can withstand much more than most. Advantage –  certain brands have very low maintenance and it will increase your overall property value the most! Disadvantage – it comes with a extra price tag as for upfront costs but has been known to save in the long run.

Fiber-Cement Siding – multiple companies make this product or a product of a similar mixture but the name to know with fiber-cement is Hardie. This product has really taken over as the premium siding for new construction homes.  Advantage –  low maintenance, sturdy protection of the home. Disadvantage – it is produced with silica, it’s a process to repair, and made with cement, which soaks up water once exposed.

Stucco and Brick Siding – these are very common practices of siding in certain areas of America. Stucco is used very heavily in the west and south of America. Brick and stone are more common in the midwest and up north. Most likely do to the demographic and skilled tradesmen. Both are very sturdy and can hold your home’s value for a very long time. Advantage –  low maintenance, sturdy protection of the home. Disadvantage – the most expensive of all the siding types.

As you can see there are many different types of siding that you have to choose from and depending on where you are located and thinking about building this quick reference will give you a snapshot in to which siding you want and those that you don’t. Hoping this will help save you time.
