A car’s suspension is the system of tires, springs, tire air, shock absorbers, and the components that connect them. It’s responsible for supporting and handling ride quality. When it breaks or malfunctions, it can cause multiple problems. A car tuneup will be required if you notice any of the following issues happening to your vehicle.

3 Suspension System Warning Signs

1. Feeling Every Bump

The shock absorbers help to absorb bumps in the road, while leaf springs will stabilize the vehicle after it bounces. Feeling entire potholes or speed bumps when you drive over them could indicate a problem with one or both of these parts. To test whether the shocks or springs need to be replaced, put your body weight on the front end of your vehicle and release it. If the car bounces up and down more than three times, a car tuneup is required.

2. Swaying

A vehicle that’s drifting around corners is showing that the suspension system isn’t keeping the car stable, which could lead to it rolling over or other severe accidents from losing control. Nosedives, which is when a car dips forward when it stops, are a sign of heavily worn shocks. Accidents could occur if you can’t stop in time, or the nose slams into the pavement and ruins your front bumper.

3. One Side Appears Lower

Tire treads that are balder on one side, or a leaning vehicle when parked could indicate a suspension problem. Check your tire’s pressure with a pressure gauge to make sure it’s the tires and not the suspension. If the car still sits lower on one side even if the tire pressure is adequate, the steering components or wheel alignment could be an issue.
