Ocean pollution is a result of human activity that is not only destroying habitats and marine life but also harming the beauty of beaches and snorkeling sites. Fortunately, you can do your part to combat the spread of ocean waste in the following ways.

What You Can Do to Prevent Ocean Pollution

1. Use Less Plastic

Some experts predict that the volume of plastic waste in the ocean will exceed the number of fish by 2050. To help reduce plastic pollution, avoid single-use products, like plastic wrapping, straws, and takeout containers, wherever you can. Instead, invest in reusable items like glass containers to store food items, canvas tote bags for groceries, and stainless steel coffee cups.

2. Help Clean Up the Beaches

You can also check if there are voluntary beach clean-up crews in your area. If not, organize your own crew with friends or family.

3. Don’t Throw Items in the Ocean

Whether you’re snorkeling, swimming, or on a cruise, be conscientious about what you bring into the water. Don’t enter the ocean with anything that can be washed away, like cigarettes or eyeglasses. If you’re on a boat, don’t throw anything outside of it.
