Going to preschool is a monumental step for toddlers. Parents and guardians often have a difficult time telling when the best time is to enroll kids in these programs. Here are four indications your child will succeed in pre-K based on their development and interests.

4 Signs a Child Is Ready for Preschool

1. They’re Potty Training

Pre-Ks often ask that students are potty trained prior to beginning their programs. If your tot is learning to use the toilet, they’ll soon attend classes. Ask potential preschools about their bathroom readiness policies so you can enroll your child in one that best matches their needs.

2. They Seek Social Interaction

preschoolIt’s helpful for toddlers, teachers, and parents when students are interested in interacting with others before they start classes. You can facilitate social development to help them prepare by having playdates, taking the child to daycare and going to parks and museums where there are a lot of other kids. Little ones must learn to share, cooperate, and wait their turn to make the best of this extended time socializing.

3. Age

Many kids begin attending preschool when they are two years away from starting kindergarten. Some children begin this educational journey at age three. Those with birthdays in or after September may wait to start preschool until they are four years old, so they can benefit from some additional time to get ready for classes.

4. They’re Excited

Kids who have siblings are often excited to begin preschool because they see their older brothers and sisters heading off to class and want to join. If your toddler is excited, consider taking them to tour a school and see what it’s all about. Then, gauge their interest and enroll them if they are truly happy about classes after seeing pre-k in person.
