The excitement of home remodeling can often seem to be overshadowed by the stresses of the process. When you’re having one room or more redesigned and you have to open your home to a work crew, it may seem to juggle daily tasks. Here are a few tips to make the best of the situation.

How to Survive a Home Remodel

1. Maintain Your Routine

It may seem counterintuitive, but try to stick to your daily routine. Go to bed at the normal time, keep up with your housecleaning and laundry, and eat at the usual hours. Chores that are humdrum and begrudgingly performed under typical circumstances may provide welcome relief and normalcy during renovations. If your household continues to run as close to ordinary as it can, those living in the home will feel less bothered by remodeling nuisances.

2. Keep Dust at a Minimum

3. Have an Escape Room

If possible, make sure that you have at least one quiet, clean, comfortable place in your home during the remodeling. A retreat room can make all the difference when you need to concentrate, sleep, or unwind after a hectic day.

You may be accustomed to several rooms in your home serving this purpose, but during a renovation, it may be more difficult to find one. Having at least one spot in the house that feels normal also helps when you’re trying to keep up with your routine.

4. Budget Some Wiggle Room

You can reduce stress during home remodeling by having money to spare, just in case. No matter detailed the cost estimate is, a surprise or two could pop up during the project. Even if everything goes as planned, you may change your mind about something you had picked out earlier, and having a little extra in the budget allows you to be flexible.
