Although any doctor will tell you that it’s important to exercise, that doesn’t make it any easier to do it. After all, life gets busy and it may be difficult to change your routine to accommodate additional physical movement. However, since it’s a crucial aspect of your personal health care, it’s worth figuring out. Fortunately, there are a few tricks that can help.

4 Tips for Fitting Exercise Into Your Day

1. Get a Bike

Invest in a good bike, especially one with storage space, along with a helmet and gear. Anytime you need to go somewhere within a reasonable distance of your home, opt to bike there.

This alone can make noticeable changes to your overall health, including building your muscles, flexibility, and endurance level while reducing your fat, to name a few benefits.

2. Walk More Often

Purposely park far from the buildings you need to enter and choose stairs rather than elevators. If possible, get up and have a face-to-face conversation when you need to talk with a co-worker or supervisor.

When taking a break from work, walk around inside the building or out in the fresh air, if the weather is nice. This includes your lunch break; go and get your food personally rather than have it delivered.

3. Move While Working

Desk jobs make exercise especially hard because they require you to be sedentary for long periods. However, there are still easy methods for getting in more movement.

doctorFor example, stand up whenever you have to talk on the phone and, at regular intervals, make a point to do any stretches recommended by your doctor. Replace your office chair with an exercise ball and consider sitting on one while watching television, reading, or using your phone at home as well.

4. Play More

When planning date nights, social outings, and family time, emphasize activities that involve movement, like bowling, hiking, laser tag, or batting cages. Along with the exercise ball at home, get some weights to lift when you’re sitting.

Play video games that require exercise, such as Wii-Fit®, or just turn on some fun music to have impromptu dances around your house, especially while you’re cleaning. Get on the floor to play with your pets and kids, too.
