If you recently had a relaxing facial that rejuvenated your skin, you likely want those results to last as long as possible. However, your skin's condition can vary dramatically depending on what you do after your appointment. To maximize the results of your treatment, follow these skin care tips.

Do:

Give your skin a break.

Your skin is overly sensitive after a facial since it has been deeply exfoliated. While your face may look pink as a result, you shouldn't put on heavy makeup to cover it up. In fact, skip wearing makeup for a day, and avoid other treatments, such as toner, face scrubs, and acne products, for a few days to let your skin heal.

Drink plenty of water.

facialHydrating your skin cells makes them elastic and keeps them from drying out. This means your skin will better be able to flush out toxins and absorb the nutrients from the facial. By drinking plenty of water, your skin will recover more quickly, and you'll be left with a glowing complexion that lasts.

Don’t:

Visit a sauna or steam room.

Heat and sweat can irritate your sensitive skin, clogging pores and even breaking capillaries. For this reason, skip the steam room, sauna, and gym after your appointment. If you want to sweat as part of your spa day, do it before you have your facial done.

Expose your face to the sun.

Exfoliation exposes fresh skin, which is much more susceptible to sun damage. This new skin can easily burn, which may accelerate wrinkle development and put you at risk for skin cancer. For this reason, don't sunbathe for three days. If you do need to go outdoors, apply an oil-free facial sunscreen and wear a wide-brimmed hat.
