Warm spring and summer air means you’ll have to use your HVAC system more often. Before spring begins, you should have an HVAC contractor check the system and fix any problems before the temperatures get too warm. Below are a few areas that need maintenance to ensure you’re ready for spring.

How an HVAC Contractor Can Help You Prepare Your System for Spring

1. Uncover the Outdoor Unit

During the winter, many people cover the outdoor air conditioning unit. You should take the cover off before turning the unit on for the season. There is likely debris around it, so clean the area to ensure that outside air has a clear pathway.

2. Check Ducts & Insulation

If you have issues with your ducts and insulation, your HVAC system must work harder to cool your home when it gets warm. This costs you extra money every day, which adds up quickly. Bring in an HVAC contractor to inspect the ducts and insulation in your home. They can seal any leaks they find and make any other repairs.

3. Replace Air Filter

If you forgot to replace your filter between seasons, do so before turning on your air conditioner. Dirty filters contain dust and allergens that you don’t want circulating throughout your home.

4. Test the System

Turn on your air conditioning sometime during the late winter or early spring. Choose a day when you can monitor how the AC is working every two to three hours. If the system doesn’t turn on, or the air isn’t as cold as it should be, you’ll need an HVAC contractor to get it working again.
