Every year, the Annual Great Backyard Bird Count allows people across North America to serve as citizen scientists and provide valuable information to biologists at the Cornell Bird Lab by counting birds. Wild Bird Habitat Store doesn’t just supply the Lincoln, NE, community with bird feeders, bird baths, bird houses and a host of birding supplies. The store is also pleased to be Nebraska’s Ambassador for the Great Backyard Bird Count. 2020 marks the event’s 23rd anniversary. Find out how to get involved below.

Annual Great Backyard Bird Count

February 14 – 17, 2020

This year’s bird count will take place from February 14 – 17, 2020. Participate by helping to collect data on bird movements. The information you gather will help biologists track bird patterns. All ages and skill levels are welcome to participate.

Whether you count and report the five birds you can identify at your feeders or the 75 species on an outing, your contribution is valuable. To get involved, pick a location; it can be anywhere from your backyard, schoolyard, city park, or wildlife area. You can count birds for as little as 15 minutes. Take note of how many birds of each species you see then report that data to the biologists at the Cornell Bird Lab. You can count one day, everyday, multiple times a day and at multiple locations from February 14 – 17.

Then go to the Great Backyard Bird Count website and enter your list. Do this by clicking on the “Submit Observations” tab on the website. You will be asked to map your location, enter the date and time, and list the types and numbers of birds you saw. Its fun! Its easy! its free! And its for the birds.
