Everyone loves going on vacation. However, before you leave for your trip, you want to make sure you’re packing everything you need. If you’re taking a flight to get to your destination, there are certain restrictions in place to keep in mind as you go through airport security. Use these tips to navigate the airport, while maximizing space in your carry-on for easy access on the plane.

How to Pack for Vacation

1. Make a Checklist

Don’t pack at the last minute because you’ll be more likely to forget something. Make two lists of what to bring, one for your carry-on and the other for your checked bag. For the bag you’re checking, pack clothes, accessories, and toiletries. In your carry-on, pack headphones, personal necessities, and some entertainment options. Aim to pack two weeks in advance, if possible, to reduce stress before the flight.

2. Don’t Forget About Travel Sizes

vacationThe TSA allows you to pack liquids, gels, and aerosols in your carry-on as long as you follow the 3-1-1 rule. These products need to be in containers that are 3.4 ounces or less and they must all fit in a quart-sized bag. Each passenger is only permitted one bag.

3. Plan for Bad Weather

Be prepared for snow, rain, or colder weather by packing a light rain jacket and boots. If you are coming from a snowier climate but traveling to a warmer vacation destination, for example, wear your jacket on the flight. This way, you’ll have more room in your checked bag. As a bonus, you can use your coat as a blanket or pillow if you want to sleep on the plane.
