When you receive your first pair of dentures, the first step you need to take is to learn how to care for them properly. These teeth prosthetics are valuable dental accessories that you’ll want to make sure last for years to come. Use the following guide to get started caring for your new teeth.

Cleaning

Keep your dentures free from unwanted food particles by rinsing them after every meal and brushing them at least once a day with approved denture cleanser to prevent plaque formation. After you remove the dentures, brush your natural teeth, tongue, cheeks, and roof of your mouth with regular toothpaste and make sure to remove any leftover adhesive from your gums. Never use abrasive cleaning tools, whitening toothpaste, bleach, or hot water to clean your dentures to avoid causing permanent damage.

Handling

dentures Soak your dentures in a dentist-approved solution every night, and don’t forget to rinse them thoroughly each morning before putting them back in your mouth. If left on your prosthetic teeth, the solution can cause burns, pain, or vomiting. Make sure to handle your dentures with a towel over a sink full of water, or another soft surface to prevent them from breaking if you accidentally drop them.

Storage

Your dentures can easily dry out and lose their shape if they aren’t stored properly. Always keep them in room temperature water or denture solution when you aren’t wearing them. Never store them in reach of children or pets to avoid any accidental damage.
