Whether you’re at a soccer training session or a game, it’s fun and exciting to see your child playing. Unfortunately, the winter weather can impact both the players and your own comfort. To ensure that you and your child can fully enjoy the season without being distracted by illness or discomfort, keep in mind the following helpful tips.

5 Ways to Keep Everyone Warm & Healthy for Winter Soccer

1. Prepare Beforehand

The day before going to soccer training or a game, make sure that you and your child drink extra water. One of the many reasons why hydration is important is that it boosts blood circulation, helping your body maintain a healthy temperature. It also prevents sickness that could be exacerbated by the cold weather.

2. Wear Layers

Dress your child and yourself in fleece or wool pants and tops, in addition to a waterproof and wind-resistant coat. For extra chilly temperatures or precipitation, bring a fleece or wool hat as well. Don’t forget wool socks with sock liners, and insulated and water-resistant gloves, possibly with hand warmers. The colder you expect the weather to be, the more layers you should bring. Pack extra outfits, as well, just in case the rain, snow, or slush gets anyone’s clothes wet.

3. Warm-Up Properly

Show up to the soccer training session or game early enough for your child to warm up a little before actually playing. Gradually working up to more intense activity will help their body adjust to the temperature better. Encourage them to do some light activity to stay heated when they’re not on the field, too, provided they’re not tired.

4. Bring Hot Food

5. Sit on Something Soft

Take padded cushions or thick blankets that you can place beneath yourself on the cold metal bleachers. Your child could use one, too, when it’s their turn to be on the bench. It’s even better if you get padded cushions that can be electronically warmed with batteries. You can also look into getting a comfortable padded camping chair.
