Rodents are a common pest that many businesses and homeowners deal with. However, their presence isn’t always obvious. To get your home in order, you need to know how to identify the problem. As such, below are a few tell-tale signs that indicate you need rodent control

How to Tell If You Need Rodent Control

1. Droppings

Mice droppings are unmistakable—small, dark, and pointed on both ends. Mice leave droppings close to their nest or food source, so you’re likely to find them in drawers, under sinks, and in cabinets. Fresh droppings are moist and putty-like, while old pieces are hard, crumbly, and grayish in color.

2. Gnaw Marks

If you find minor gnaw marks on cords, pieces of wood or plastic, or shoes, it’s likely you have mice in your home. Their gnaw markings are usually no larger than a dime in size. Mice will gnaw on almost anything to gain access to food, shelter, or safety, and their teeth can chew through plastic, wood, and soft metals.

3. Scampering Sounds at Night

Mice are most active at night, and they scurry along floorboards and inside walls making scratching sounds as they go. The noise might be barely distinguishable if their numbers are small, but cats and dogs will easily identify it either way. If your pets repeatedly show interest in the areas behind the furniture or walls, call a pest control professional to do an inspection.

4. Nests

If you find shredded or chewed cardboard boxes, newspapers, or other papers in your home, it’s likely that mice have been using them to build nests. They will make their nests in hidden areas, such as behind large appliances, inside cabinets, and behind walls. Look for nests close to food sources, and don’t be surprised if you find young mice in them.
