The winter season can be noticeably harsh on your skin. Lauren A. Daman, MD, PC, a dermatologist and skin surgeon in Hartford, CT, knows that the skin care routine that works for one person often does not work for another. While she offers several procedures, such as microdermabrasion and chemical face peels, that can help keep your skin looking young all winter long, she knows that, you can also create a home skin care routine that can be beneficial as well.

To that end, Dr. Daman would make the following suggestions for creating a skin care routine that works for you:

  • Customize Your Cleanser: Dry, flaky and itchy skin are common reactions to harsh winter weather, and changing your cleanser can be a simple solution. If you're currently using gel or a water-soluble cleanser, Dr. Daman suggests opting for one that contains lotion and has a rich, creamy texture.
  • Moisturize Efficiently: Emollient moisturizers that contain ingredients such as glycerin, fatty acids and hyaluronic acid help to fight against severe dryness. Additionally, lotions with anti-inflammatory supplements reduce skin irritation, prompt cell growth, and contain beneficial antioxidants. Talk to Dr. Daman if you’re not sure which moisturizer is right for you.
  • Sunscreen When It's Not Sunny: Cloudy weather does not equal no sun. Dr. Daman warns against removing sunscreen from your skin care regimen during winter, because the sun's rays are actually more intense when it's overcast outside.

Many products can fit in each of the above categories, and it can be hard to know which ones will work for you. To schedule an appointment with Lauren A. Daman, MD, PC or to speak to professional about skin care products, call (860) 246-3533 or visit them online.
