A vasectomy is an effective and widely used male sterilization method. Some men forego the procedure because of myths surrounding the results. If you don’t intend to have another child or kids at all and want a long-term solution, it’s important to understand the facts about this surgery. Here are a few common myths debunked.

Debunking Myths About Vasectomy Surgery

1. It Affects Testosterone Production

During a vasectomy, a surgeon snips the vas deferens to prevent sperm from traveling to the urethra during ejaculation. Some men mistakenly think that testosterone can longer be produced, leading to muscle loss, changes in voice, and other issues. Testosterone travels in the bloodstream from the testicles. A vasectomy won’t impact production or prevent testosterone from moving throughout your body.

2. It Causes Erectile Dysfunction

vasectomyA vasectomy doesn’t affect the penis in any way, so there’s no reason to believe you’ll develop erectile dysfunction (ED). You’ll be able to ejaculate normally. The only difference will be that you won’t release any sperm. It’s also a minimally invasive surgery that can be completed in around 15 minutes, so mishaps are extremely rare.

3. Sex Won’t Feel as Good

You won’t experience any reduction in how good sex feels. Because the surgery only involves the testicles, you won’t have any nerve damage in the penis that could reduce pleasure from orgasms. It’s also rare to experience a decreased libido. Many men find it comforting that they don’t have to worry about accidental pregnancy anymore, which can improve their experience.
