Custom suits provide an unmatched style and comfortable fit. If you want to continue enjoying those benefits for many years, proper care is necessary. Luckily, maintaining your custom suit doesn’t need to be challenging. Below are a few best practices to remember.

Do:

Use quality hangers.

When storing your custom suits, make sure they are fully supported. High-quality wooden coat hangers keep the shoulders of your suit in shape, so the fabric doesn’t stretch or warp. Wood hangers also absorb moisture, so they can help dry out your suits.

After each use, make sure there isn’t any dust or dirt on your suit, as it could harm the fabric. Use a brush with soft bristles to remove any debris. Then use a steamer to clean and remove wrinkles.

Don’t:

Dry clean suits regularly.

When your suits have stains or have dirt or moisture buildup, you may want to dry clean them, so they’re completely fresh. However, avoid doing this regularly, as the chemicals can wear down the fabric. Keep it to a few times per year at most.

Cram suits into your closet.

If you have many suits and other clothes, you may try and fit everything into one closet. However, this can wrinkle your suits and damage the fabric. Instead, leave room between pieces, and consider fabric covers for added protection. If you need more space, purchase clothing racks to hold the excess.
