Due to its versatility and simplicity, salmon is one of the most widely beloved Alaskan seafood items for cooking at home. There are so many different different ways to prepare this fish that will please just about any palate. Learn more about how to cook salmon and bring out its flavors.

4 Ways to Cook Salmon

1. Smoked

Smoked salmon has deep flavors that feature woody notes and a touch of brininess. If you have a smoker, set it to 120 degrees, and cook the fillets for about two to three hours.

Professionally made smoked salmon is also delicious and easy to serve atop toast or bagels with fresh cream, chives, and capers.

2. Pan-Seared

Alaskan seafoodSalmon tastes best when seared on all sides with a medium-rare center. Start by seasoning the raw fillets with salt, pepper, and your choice of spices.

Add oil to a pan on high heat, and fry the salmon skin-side up for about two minutes. Flip the fillet, and fry it for another three minutes or until the skin gets crispy.

Serve topped with fresh herbs and a slice of lemon on the side.

3. Roasted

Coat the salmon fillets in oil, herbs, and spices, then place them in a baking dish skin-side down. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees, and allow the salmon to roast for about 10 minutes uncovered or until it starts to flake with a fork.

4. Broiled

If you want to cook your salmon quickly but still get a golden-brown crust, put it in your broiler. Move your oven rack to about six inches beneath the heating element, and oil and season the meat while the broiler preheats. Put the salmon under the broiler for about five to eight minutes.

For even better flavor, coat it with honey, mustard, and lemon before cooking.
