If you’ve recently purchased your first pair of eyeglasses, it’s important to understand how to care for them. Glasses are long-term investments, and scratches can interfere with their efficacy. Below are best practices that will help you see clearly and keep your pair in top shape.

How to Take Care of Your Eyeglasses

1. Always Have a Case Handy

Your glasses can fall if you set them on a bedside table or clip them to your shirt. To prevent accidents, only store them in approved eyewear cases. Purchase several and keep one in your car, work desk, and purse. This way, you’ll never be tempted to use the wrong storage method.

2. Handle Them Gently

3. Clean Carefully

When the cloth in your case isn’t enough to make the glasses clear, you need to wash them. First, lay down a towel on a flat surface. Only work above the towel, which will prevent cracks if you drop your pair.

Wash your hands so you don’t introduce bacteria to the lenses. Next, rinse your glasses with lukewarm water. You can then use dishwashing liquid or an approved cleaning solution to wipe the lenses. Rub them carefully with a microfiber cloth, then rinse out the product. Do the same when cleaning the frame, then dry with a lint-free towel.
