While some owners live in their RVs year-round, others place them into storage when they’re not traveling. Many facilities offer spaces designed for RVs, and whether your camper will be parked indoors or outdoors, there are many ways you can prepare your RV to protect it. If you’re waiting for summer weather or simply having a busy year at home, use the following tips to store your vehicle.

How to Get Your RV Ready for Storage

1. Inspect the Ventilation System

Most RVs have a heating, cooling, and ventilation system that includes rooftop vents. Close and cover these vents to prevent moisture from working its way into the vehicle during storage.

Change or clean any air filters inside the cabin. This is an excellent time to inspect your AC unit for dust buildup. With the filter removed, use a flashlight to look into the unit. If you see any residue, use a vacuum to clean the debris.

2. Protect Against Pests

storageRemove all food, liquids, medicines, and toiletries from the cabinets, and scrub the fridge clean. Vacuum every nook and cranny to remove anything that could attract pests.

Consider placing dryer sheets beneath the mattress to deter mice, and use screens to block any openings, which can include vents and intake pipes.

3. Clean the Exterior

Before you put your RV into storage, thoroughly wash the exterior with soap and water to remove dirt and debris. Clean the tires to remove any oils that might have accumulated during your travels. then place your RV on blocks to remove weight from the tires. This will prevent cracking and flat-spotting.
