Sharks are a fascinating species that is comprised of several types and sizes, and they can be the centerpiece of a home saltwater fish tank. Exploring this species is a new experience for many tank owners. Below, you’ll find four popular sharks that will thrive in your existing containers.

Best Sharks to Add to Your Saltwater Fish Tank

1. Wobbegongs

If you have a 180- to 300-gallon fish tank, Wobbegongs—also called Wobbies—are a great choice. These sedentary sharks love to sit and rest on reefs. They’ll lay still for long periods to lure prey closer, which can include fish of every size, before attacking. They love to eat, so know that it’s best to keep them away from your other fish.

2. Coral Catsharks

They average 4-inches long and mostly hunt at night. They aren’t likely to eat your large fish but will hunt smaller fish and crustaceans.

3. Horn Sharks

This unique species, also known as a Bullhead Shark, is ideal for advanced fish tank owners. They’re slow swimmers and average around 4 feet, so you’ll need a larger tank—at least 300 gallons. They love to relax on the bottom, especially on soft sand. If other larger fish or sharks are a threat, know that the horn shark’s dorsal fin can injure them. It also poses a risk to tank owners, so handle them with care.

4. Epaulettes

If you’re a first-time shark owner, Epaulettes are the best purchase. They feel safe in smaller, tight spaces so that you won’t need an extra-large tank. They also fast frequently, so you’ll only need to feed them every few weeks.
