With spring right around the corner, motorcyclists are gearing up for the start of their favorite season. Although much fun and adventure await you, it’s also important to be prepared. From looking over important insurance documents to getting your bike up and ready to ride, here are some tips for preparing your motorcycle for spring.

How to Prepare for Motorcycle Season

1. Refuel Your Bike

Hopefully, you took the right steps before winter and drained fuel from your bike or added a fuel stabilizer. Old fuel is not only less combustible but also more damaging to engine components. If there is old fuel remaining in the gas tank, empty it and refill your tank with fresh gas.

2. Check the Tires

Check air pressure of your tires and refill them if any air loss occurred. Also, visually inspect your tires for damage. Cracks and defects may not seem like a big deal, but they can easily lead to a blowout if you’re not careful. Don’t hesitate to buy a new set of tires if your current set appears worn.

3. Test the Brakes

insuranceBefore heading out for your first run, test the front and rear brakes to gauge performance. Issues can often be identified by strange sounds or smells. Common problems are worn brake pads, which should be replaced, and leaking brake lines. Although no mechanical problems involving your bike should be neglected, brake maintenance is especially important.

4. Look Over Your Insurance Policy

Along with mechanical concerns, take a moment to go over your insurance documents to make sure your coverage is still applicable. If anything has changed, like how much you drive your bike or the type of motorcycle you drive, be sure to reach out to your insurance agent for clarification.
