From picking out wedding decorations to setting your guest list, a ton of details goes into planning a wedding. Although the ceremony and reception should be an expression of your tastes and desires, you should avoid offending or inconveniencing your guests. To ensure your big day is a success for everyone involved, keep these wedding etiquette tips in mind.

Do:

Greet every guest.

Everyone at your wedding has given up their own time to celebrate with you. Make an effort to greet and thank people throughout the evening. You can stage a formal reception line after the ceremony or make the rounds during the reception.

Invite those who are important to you.

Don’t feel obligated to invite everyone whose weddings you’ve attended, especially if you have limited space or are on a tight budget. Invitations should clearly state who’s invited. Don’t address them to families if you can accommodate only adults, and make sure you offer plus-ones to people in committed relationships.

Don’t:

Delay the reception.

A small break between the ceremony and the reception is fine. Have bar service and appetizers available while you get a few photos out of the way.

Advertise registry information on invitations.

Registry information on shower invitations is perfectly acceptable, but you shouldn’t include it on your wedding invites. If you want guests to choose a gift from your registry, add links to it on your wedding website. Later, after the wedding is over, send a handwritten thank-you note for every gift.
