House keys are one of the items you use every day—and also one of the ones you're most likely to lose. They're small, easy to overlook, and you carry them with you so often that they could be anywhere. If they have vanished one too many times, try these tips to keep track of them.

How Can You Keep an Eye on Your House Keys?

1. Change Your Routine

First, choose a designated place to keep your keys when you're home, like on a hook or in a bowl by the door. Always put them there, no matter what.

Then, when you leave the house, don't lock the door from the inside before closing it; instead, use your keys. This means you can never lock your keys in the house. The same goes for your car.

Once you're done using your keys, have a specific place to keep them, like your left front pocket or a particular zippered pouch in your purse.

2. Choose the Right Keychain

3. Have a Plan

When you lose your keys, you should already have a backup plan in place. Keep a spare key in a secure compartment with a combination lock or leave it with someone trustworthy. Also, make sure you have a locksmith's number in your phone.
