Repetitive motions, exposure to hazardous materials, or sudden events, can result in a worker becoming injured on the job. When that happens, workers’ compensation exists to relieve the financial burden. If an employee experiences an injury at work, knowing what’s covered will help you understand what to expect.

What’s Covered Under Workers’ Compensation Insurance?

1. Missed Wages

If an employee is unable to work, they’ll be able to recover a sum of money based on their rate of pay so they can continue to have income and provide for their family. They’ll be paid two-thirds of their paycheck for the duration of the time they are unable to work.

2. Repetitive Injury

Workers' CompensationMany contractors sustain injuries over time through exertion. Repetitive motion—such as the consistent movement of heavy objects—can result in many conditions. This includes tendonitis, sciatica, and bursitis. While they take months and years to develop, the insurance will pay for the recovery treatments if the injuries were found to be work related.

3. Medical Expenses

Recovering from a workplace injury can be costly. Often, injured workers need an ambulance trip, initial treatments, and medication. When more serious injuries are sustained, employees might need doctor’s visits, medications, surgeries, and physical therapy.

4. Disability

Some injuries and illnesses like lost limbs and exposure to certain chemicals can leave a worker disabled temporarily or permanently. The benefits provided by lost wages and medical expenses will help alleviate the financial burden the worker faces.

5. Funeral Costs

If a loss of life occurs, the worker’s beneficiaries will receive financial help in paying for the funeral. They’ll also receive death benefits.
