Although the advantages of concrete parking lots are numerous, including the fact they’re attractive and durable, proper maintenance is imperative if you want them to last. Here are a few helpful tips for maintaining concrete surfaces.

How to Keep a Concrete Parking Lot in Excellent Condition

1. Seal & Coat

Have your concrete contractor use either a film-forming or penetrating sealer on your concrete. Sealants guard concrete from water and salt, which may weaken and erode it. Reinforce the sealer with epoxy coating for extra protection and shine. Repeat this process of sealing and coating about every four or five years.

2. Power-Wash Regularly

3. Fix Blemishes

Concrete may crack or chip as it ages. As soon as you see surface blemishes, make it a priority to fix them. Work with your contractor to fill cracks with self-leveling concrete, and get hydraulic cement to patch chips.

4. Keep It Even

Wear and tear may cause concrete to shift around. Some areas of your lot may become uneven when the ground under your lot moves. Grinding concrete with a grinder wheel can solve unevenness problems. However, for reasons of safety, grinding is a job best left to the professionals.
