If you’re an automotive newbie, hearing the names of actual auto parts might confuse you. Some of them may even sound like they’re straight out of a science-fiction movie. Because of this, it’s often hard to distinguish between real part names and fake ones. To help you avoid being a victim of misinformation, or maybe to help you get a laugh or two, consult the list of five fake auto part names below.

What Are Some Fake Auto Part Names?

1. Blinker Fluid

If a car’s blinkers don’t work, many people say that they need “blinker fluid.” However, the blinker is a mechanical part that doesn’t use fluid. Over the years, needing blinker fluid has become a common way to say that the blinker is malfunctioning.

2. 710 Cap

3. Muffler Bearing

Mufflers don’t have bearings, because they don’t need bearings. This is because they don’t spin. Many use this saying when their mufflers don’t work, regardless of the specific issue.

4. Johnson Rod

If you feel like your automotive repair bill is too low, simply ask your mechanic to change your johnson rod. All jokes aside, this is a completely made up auto part that vehicle owners say was “fixed” when they were overcharged for their auto repair bills.

5. Flux Capacitor

This saying is pretty flexible. It first appeared in the movie Back to the Future as a time-travel device but is now commonly referred to as the culprit in most software and hardware issues. So, the next time your car is acting up, simply check the flux capacitor and then go back in time to when your car was running just fine.
